A critical part of a car's cooling system is the thermostat. If this vital component fails to perform, the engine may overheat and cause damage.
When a thermostat is working properly it opens and closes allowing coolant to circulate through out the cooling system. In some instances the thermostat gets stuck in the closed position. When this occurs the coolant can not circulate and the engine will eventually overheat. No warning light will come on to indicate there is a problem, the only indicator will be the temperature gauge which will start to rise as the engine gets hot.
One of the worst things for an engine is to overheat it. Overheating can cause serious problems that lead to expensive repairs.
Here at Kerechuk Motor Service we recommend replacing your engine thermostat every 100,000 miles as preventative maintenance.

Just about every one has a cell phone these days. Most people have a cell phone charger in their vehicles so that they can keep the phone battery charged and ready at all times. There is a proper way to plug in your charger.
When plugging your phone charger into the power outlet/cigarette lighter, always push it straight in and pull it straight out when removing . Turning the charger in the socket as you push it in or after it is all the way in can damage your charger and can blow a fuse in your car. A blown fuse will cause one or more electrical components to fail such as the dome light, radio etc. On some cars a blown fuse can cause the car to fail a smog test.

You should really have your tires rotated at regular intervals. We recommend rotating your tires every 7,500 miles. Tires that are cupped make noise. You can't control cupping when you have directional tires, therefore you may have to replace tires sooner than their life expectancy. There is nothing worse than riding in a nice quiet car with noisey tires.

Don't hold your steering wheel to its stopping point - when you feel the steering wheel stop back it off just slightly - By holding it at the stopping point you are causing very high pressure in the hydraulic system. This can cause seals and hoses within the power steering system to start leaking.

There are many factors to consider when deciding which tires are right for your car. Brand name, tread patterns, speed and mileage ratings are the most common. However, there is another thing that is important when making this major purchase for your car. There are three types of tires "directional" which means the tires have to stay on the left and right sides of the car, which means they can only be rotated front to back but must remain on the same side of the car that they were originally put on. This does not allow for the tires to be rotated from side to side. The second type of tires are "non directional". These tires can be rotated from front to back or side to side and can be cross rotated. By cross rotating tires you control what is called "cupping". Cupping is caused when the treads wear at an angle because the tires were not rotated often enough or only rotated front to back and remained on the same side of the car. The third type an "outside/inside" mounting tires refers to the way the tires must be mounted on the rim. These tires can be rotated in various patterns including cross rotation.
